➝ Write for Us
We're always looking for authors who understand the mission of hope.
Hello! I'm Janel Guevara, the editor-in-chief and publisher.
I co-founded The Christian Woman's Page with my dear friend Elizabeth in 1998. We were in our early twenties and felt the call to write. The publishing world was an old-school kind of scary back then. So, we took matters into our own hands. We created a new-fangled, online magazine a decade before blogs were cool.
Our mission, from the beginning, has been to encourage women who are struggling. Those who have moments of frustration and overwhelm in everyday life. The experiences always showed up when we were elbows deep in laundry, deadlines, and to do lists... when God seems ridiculously quiet and very far away. Especially in times when our only prayers came out as "Help! Lord Jesus!"
We have always tried to cultivate a personal connection with our readers by being authentic, vulnerable, and real. We feel that's what God wants in His relationship with us. So, we want to try and offer that to others when we can. Here at the CWP, we accomplish that with our words, sharing hope from our own lives. The good, the bad, and the ugly, all wrapped in grace.
I've put together our publication guidelines below. If they are amenable to you, feel free to join our contributor mailing list. That's where you'll get details about our future issues and article submission windows, along with other writing information and opportunities.
I look forward to connecting with you!
With pen in hand,
Janel Guevara
CWP Writers' Guidelines
We seek to meet women where they are in their disappointments and daily frustrations, to offer glimpses into similar circumstances from our lives that might bring hope and encouragement to get them through. While we love work from veteran authors, we have a heart for new writers. That said, we have same standards for everyone. They are categorized for you below:
Our Content Style
- Personal. Vulnerable. Practical. Relatable.
- Most of our readers are adult women in various seasons of life, with similar challenges and experiences for each.
- We want everyday topics that women can connect with now to find comfort and hope.
- We love stories where God shows up in unexpected ways as a direct answer to prayer. It's usually at the 59th minute of the 11th hour, but that's who He is, and what reminds us to keep the faith.
- If you'd share the content of your piece as a praise at Bible study or your women's group, we'll likely appreciate it too—especially if there's backstory you can streamline for public consumption while maintaining privacy for those involved.
- While not every submission can be humorous, sometimes celebrating the ridiculous about a situation can ease the pain.
- Inclusion of Scriptures is appreciated to ground the message, but not a requirement.
- Make sure whatever you offer has a take away the reader can meditation on and pray about when they go back to everyday life.
Our Formatting Style
- We target 750 to 1100 words per article.
- 1200+ word articles are requested by the editorial staff from established CWP authors.
- We loosely adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style Guidelines.
- We refer to A Christian Writer's Manual of Style by Bob Hudson and Shelley Townsend when needed.
- The advent of the internet changed publishing standards forever, so we make final decisions regarding grammar and style on a article-by-article basis.
- As the editor-in-chief, when I select articles, I'm more concerned with readability that faithfully shares the intended message than I am with grammatical precision. Losing the ability to write for a decade has given me a particular grace when it comes to grammar and style. That said, don't blow up my inbox like we’re middle schoolers—write like a literate adult and slap some punctuation on that mess.
- We seek to preserve the author's voice in each article submitted.
- We keep images to a minimum, but will include ones that are pivotal to an article.
Things to Avoid
- Shame.
- Judgement.
- Theology.
- Doctrinal stances.
- Christianese, as much as possible.
- Essays and sermons.
- Fiction and poetry that aren't directly requested by the editorial staff.
- Plagiarism.
- AI-generated anything.
- Querying the editorial staff unless asked.
- Sending physical copies of your submissions.
- Systematically categorizing people into certain roles and expectations based on gender or historic precedent. For example: writing about motherhood is acceptable; insisting a woman can't be fulfilled or blessed by God unless she is a mother, is not.
- Anything pretentious that contains questionable undertones, which is understandably subjective.
- "My church is better than your church" arguments.
- Swallowing camels and straining on gnats.
- Complaining to us about our guidelines, although support is welcome.
Still interested? Good! Here are a few more details...
While the site goes live in July, we'll be in set up and launch mode through September 2026. That means I'll be accepting article submissions for any of our next six issues. It's a great time to submit multiple articles. After September, we'll go to quarterly submissions for 2027.
One of the perks of submissions to the CWP is we don't just send "Sorry. We're not interested. Better luck next time." emails. We offer feedback on every rejected submission. For the details that can be fixed, if you take what I offer to heart, use the suggests, rework it, and resubmit before the deadline, there's a fair chance we'll publish it.
The CWP has always run on a shoestring budget with authors who graciously donated their time and articles. I used to quote Matthew 6:19-21 and say we pay in "God Bucks," but the New Testament is clear that a laborer is worthy to be paid. I'm working behind-the-scenes to make that happen. At present, we are not able to pay for this round of articles. That will change, Lord willing, after September. Until then, if you have published books or materials we will link them in your bio and place them in our Resource Center. Each article will be shared via social media for more traction and exposure.
If that didn't scare you off... We're taking submissions! Join the list below for more information.

Each month we correspond with our authors and potential authors to let them know what's happening behind-the-scenes at The Christian Woman's Page. We share the topics for upcoming issues, our article needs, links to submit your work along with deadlines, and any other relevant information that might interest writers and authors.
You may unsubscribe at any time. Being on this list does not increase your chances of having a submission accepted. It is only to keep our authors and those interesting in writing for us informed of our publishing needs and other writing opportunities.
